Fine Art Nature Photobooks

by Daragh Muldowney

Lake Baikal in Siberia is the oldest and largest freshwater lake on the planet. In winter, temperatures drop as low as -40°C and the lake becomes a vast frozen plain.  Crossing the lake can be a hazardous journey as the ice comes under huge pressure causing it to either break apart exposing the frigid water below or crush together creating large jagged hummocks. To help travellers across the ice, the locals mark out an ice road by drilling holes and ‘planting’ small pine trees that act as markers, ‘beacons’ guiding the way.

Beacons is the latest photobook and upcoming exhibition by Daragh Muldowney, which celebrates the small pine trees found along the ice roads of Lake Baikal.

Daragh Muldowney has recently been awarded First Place in the 2020 IPA Fine Art category for Beacons.

Jewellery Box

Ireland’s Hidden Gems

by Daragh Muldowney

‘Jewellery Box – Ireland’s Hidden Gems’ is a collection of sixty-three fine art nature photographs focusing on the elements of nature found in rock pools all around Ireland, revealing a world that so often goes unnoticed by the naked eye. Their distinctive inhabitants such as periwinkles, anemones, urchins and all types of seaweed have presented Daragh with a unique canvas to photograph.

All three books… Beacons (—a-photobook), Out of Thin Air ( and Jewellery Box ( were all made possible on the crowdfunding platform

Many thanks to each and every funder who helped to bring them into reality.
