Next workshop: TBC 2013
Croagh Patrick, Bundorcha Valley and Doolough are a few of the locations that will be visited in this stunning area of huge diversity.
This workshop will be based in Westport in self catering accomodation. It’s a fantastically rich area with stunning locations. Croagh Patrick, Bundorcha Valley, Doolough, Ashleigh Falls and many other locations are on the list depending on prevailing light conditions.
The main photographic focus will be on landscape photography but abstracts will also be looked at and other opportunistic options that present themselves. While an SLR camera and tripod are essential, all levels of photography are catered for taking you through the basics of exposure to advanced techniques. This is all made possible by the small group sizes. Max 5
Costs and What’s Included
The cost of the workshop is €550 for a twin room and €620 for a singe room. Accommodation is in a comfortable self catering house in Westport. Single rooms are limited so they will be on a first come first served basis. All food is included in the price. Home cooked quality food will be provided which has become a bit of a feature on Daragh’s workshops.
The workshop begins at about 6pm on Friday and finishes approx 3pm on Sunday.
All you need is your camera, tripod and yourself and enjoy the weekend while developing your photography skills further.
What you will learn
Here are some of the topics around what the workshop will be based on. This is just a guide as the workshop will be more in depth as general discussion and individual stumbling blocks lead to a fuller and deeper understanding:
Understanding Exposure – Shooting in Manual - F stops and shutter speed explained
Understanding Depth of Field
What is ISO?
Aperture and Shutter Priority Explained
Why shoot RAW?
Understanding and choosing the Correct White Balance
Histograms Explained - Why exposing to the right of a histogram is important
Filters – Graduated Neutral Density/Polarisers
Choosing the Correct Shutter Speed - Make Waterfalls and Rivers silky, Seascapes look ethereal and misty
Compositional techniques - rule of thirds - strong foreground interest and how to optimise subject matter. ,/p>
Connecting you to your subject matter so that you consider more deeply each shot before taking it.
Why research locations? Why is the direction of sunlight important? – Understanding Light and how your camera sees light.
Shooting Blind - A excercise to help you ‘feel’ light more. The display on your camera will be taped up allowing you only the tools of your light meter, shutter speed and aperture. This is an excellent excercise in not relying on the tools that are instantly available on the display of the camera. Take control back from the auto settings on your camera
Critique and Editing
This is extremely beneficial to participants as a selection of images from each person is examined and discussed. Good points and problems with each images are pointed out so that people learn from both their mistakes and what they got right. Some basic photoshop skills will be demonstrated and at least one image from each person will be processed and they can print this image for FREE using Daragh’s printers.
